Home Learning Procedures

All homework is meant to reinforce class work or prepare you for class work coming up,
therefore it is EXPECTED that all homework WILL be completed and turned in on time.

You will receive at least
two grades per week for your homework, and all homework will count
35% towards your final grade.

Homework will be given every week and some assignments will be given as a continued
assignment such as nightly working on various projects.

Homework will be given on Mondays to be collected on               Fridays
except those projects that have a specific due date.

This does not include any classwork not completed in class.

All Classwork Not Completed in Class
         IS AUTOMATICALLY HOMEWORK!!!

Check the Home Learning Page for your assignments

Grading Policy

The Labor Department put out a report called the SCANS report in which they outlined the
skills that a worker would need for the twenty first century.  Interestingly enough one of the top
skills listed was also the same skill listed by the Fortune 500 companies as being the most
needed skill of new employees - that skill -
"TEAMWORK".  In all my classes, there will be a
strong focus on teamwork.

Grades will be determined by group participation, individual contributions to the group, group &
individual mastery of knowledge, and group & individual self-assessment.

At least two grades a week will be given.

Projects will be each individual's responsibility; however I will allow small groups of students to
work together on projects as long they follow these guidelines.  Present a proposal that describes
the group project, and list what each participant will contribute to the project. Then I will
determine if a group project may replace individual projects.

Students will earn a minimum of two grades a week and
most likely will earn four to six grades a
week.

There are six grading categories:

            Earth Space Science

                         Test & Quizzes = 5 %
Classwork, Research & Reports ( lab, topical. etc.)  =35 %

 Lab Performance = 5 %

Homework  = 35 %

Projects =  20 %

Extra Credit =  is added to the grade area the
                                                 student designates

              Gifted 6th Grade Science

                         Test & Quizzes = 5%
                         Daily Classwork & Lab Performance = 15%
                         Research & Reports ( lab, topical. etc.)  = 35%
                         Homework  &  Projects =
45%

Extra Credit =  is added to the grade area the
                                                 student designates

Make-Up of Missing Work

At Interim Report time, students will be given a list of all the assignments and their current
grade.  If the assignment has an "MI" assigned in the description area, this means the
assignment is MISSING.

Students
WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO MAKE UP ANY MISSING WORK.

If there is a special circumstance please make an appointment to discuss possible make up of
missing assignments.  MISSING ASSIGNMENTS COUNT AS 2 F's.  However, if a student is
allowed to make-up the
missing assignments**, and if the student makes up more than three
missing assignments, no matter what their grade is, they WILL NOT earn more than a 2 in
effort.

No "C" grade will receive an effort grade higher than a 2.

** NO late work maybe turned in during weeks eight and nine of the grading period. There are
no exceptions except those allotted by MDCPS policy.

Spot quizzes CAN NOT be made up.  If a student has an excused absence, the student will be
excused from this grade. Also, If they are have an excused absence they MUST make-up any
work with-in the week they return back to school or it will be counted as a missing assignment.

Labs will be made up by writing a two-page (both sides + 1 page) report on the topic of the lab.
